Rio Reykjavik

RIO is located in Hafnarbúðir, a building built in the 60´s to house and feed local and foreign fishermen as well as host some night time fun. We honor their traditions with our food and drinks and invite you to join us everyday from 11:30 until late! We're committed to preparing great food with all the best ingredients available each time. Our style is one of South American with an Asian twist. RIO is an interesting choice for individuals and groups alike. We have seating for up to 80 guests and opening hours from noon to late evenings. The concept of RIO restaurant is originally designed by Hafsteinn Júlíusson and Karitas Sveinsdóttir of HAF as the restaurant MAR. The main inspiration in the design comes from the name MAR, a Latin word for the sea. The choice of materials is somewhat of an ode to the old harbour in Reykjavik. The black-treated wood panels on the walls are reminiscent of the old Icelandic harbor houses and other materials come from or reflect the harbour surroundings.
