Project Grow is an Alternative to Employment (ATE) program located in Portland, Oregon. Founded as part of Port City Development Center in January 2009, Project Grow replaced the former ATE program. At Project Grow we are challenging the idea of what ATE means by providing meaningful alternative employment opportunities in art making and farming rather than just alternative to employment activities.
Participants in Project Grow earn a paycheck from the sale of their artwork through gallery showings and sale of produce through Community Supported Art and Agriculture subscriptions (CSAAs) and to Portland restaurants. In addition to developing art projects and farming, our participants participate weekly in yoga, field trips, and music time.
Mission: Project Grow enriches the lives of adults of all mental diversities, by recognizing each individual’s gifts, promoting community integration, and skills development through the practice of art making, farming and yoga.
