WHO WE ARE:
Progenics Cord Blood Cryobank is an umbilical cord blood (UCB) cryopreservation bank operating since 2004, and located in Toronto, Canada. Progenics is registered with both Health Canada and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, USA). Moreover, Progenics is an AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) accredited facility with successful transplant experience.
WHAT IS CORD BLOOD?
After a baby is delivered, the umbilical cord is clamped and cut. Fetal blood, known as ‘cord blood’, is left in the remaining umbilical cord that is still attached to the placenta. This cord blood is traditionally discarded with the placenta as biological waste; however, scientists have discovered that cord blood is rich in special cells called Hematopoietic (blood-forming) Stem Cells (HSCs). Notably, cord blood stem cells have been used to successfully treat over 80 diseases, including Leukemias and Lymphomas!
WHAT WE DO:
At Progenics, we offer clients an exclusive quality-guaranteed opportunity to preserve their baby’s UCB stem cells.
OUR GUARANTEE:
Unlike other banks, after the UCB has been processed and successfully cryopreserved, Progenics clients receive a Certificate of Cryopreservation containing results based on the most reliable quality indicators.
THE PROGENICS DIFFERENCE:
Since cord blood samples may contain an insufficient amount of transplantable cells, it is vital that the maximum amount of cells are extracted during processing. Therefore, it is crucial to use a guaranteed processing technique to yield more cells from a given volume of cord blood. Fortunately for Progenics clients, our yield is constantly high, which is vitally important for all samples.
WHY PROGENICS:
Our high quality service is supported by the results we published in the scientific peer-reviewing journals, Transfusion (2011); 51:284-292 and, Transfusion (2015); 55:70-78, which examined both processing and cryopreservation, respectively.
