Pancha Kosha
We humans are like a lamp that has five lampshades over our light. Each of the lampshades is a different color and density. As the light shines through the lampshades, it is progressively changed in color and nature. It is a bitter-sweet coloring. On the one hand, the shades provide the individualized beauty of each lamp. Yet, the lampshades also obscure the pure light.
Human Body composed of five layers, sheaths, or bodies. Like Russian dolls, each metaphorical "body" is contained within the next: annamaya kosha—the physical body; pranamaya kosha—the breath or life-force body; manomaya kosha—the mental body; vijanamaya kosha—the wisdom body; and anandamaya kosha—the bliss body. This is not a literal anatomical model of the layers of the body, although you can find physiological parallels to the koshas, like the nervous system and the "mental" body. As a metaphor, the koshas help describe what it feels like to do yoga from the inside—the process of aligning what in contemporary language we often call "mind, body, and spirit" or "mind-body connection."
Annamaya
Annamaya Kosha(sheath of food) is our physical body which is composed of blood, muscles, bones and organ system nourished by the food we eat. This remains in a state of balance only when all these are in synchronization both structurally & functionally, and that can happen only when we eat right kinds of food suiting our constitution, season, mind & environment.
Pranamaya
Pranamaya Kosha(sheath of vital airs) is a subtler sheath which can be just felt, but not seen when compared to Annamaya Kosha. This is composed of Prana or Chi or Energy or Breath as you call it; this is nourished by the respiratory breathing which is much more essential than our food and the external energies from the environment. This sheath is responsible for all our physiological functions namely breathing, digesting, metabolizing, circulation, endocrinal, neural, skeletal, muscular, etc.
Manomaya
Manomaya Kosha(sheath of mind & emotions) represents the much subtler sheath than Pranamaya Kosha. It can either be seen or felt like the earlier two sheaths or koshas. The mind is composed of emotions, thoughts, feelings and memories. These elements of the mind affect our physiology, relationships, responses & efficiency directly. This sheath is brought to a state of balance by calming and understanding our emotions in a much more balanced manner.
Vijnanamaya
Vijnanamaya Kosha(sheath of intellect) is nothing but our intelligence & wisdom. This intelligence helps us to use the earlier three sheaths appropriately by giving us the discriminative ability to differentiate between the right & wrong, positive & negative. This is also the sheath of cognition, conditioning & de-conditioning our core opinions.
Anandamaya
Anandamaya Kosha(sheath of bliss), as mentioned previously is a state of perfect balance of all the above sheaths of living. This is attained by NATURAL HEALING SOLUTIONS.
