Founded by Friedrich Petzel in 1994, Petzel is a contemporary art gallery with locations in New York City’s Chelsea and Upper East Side neighborhoods. Representing over 40 distinguished international artists working across a diverse range of media, genre and artistic style, Petzel also operates the joint exhibition space Capitain Petzel in Berlin in collaboration with Cologne’s Galerie Gisela Capitain.
Petzel’s program is centered around an eclectic group of international contemporary artists, all of whom are critically acclaimed for their distinct creative processes: Yael Bartana, Walead Beshty, Ross Bleckner, Cosima von Bonin, Troy Brauntuch, Hanne Darboven, Simon Denny, Keith Edmier, Thomas Eggerer, Derek Fordjour, Nikita Gale, Robert Heinecken, Stefanie Heinze, Georg Herold, Charline von Heyl, Dana Hoey, Christian Jankowski, Asger Jorn, Sean Landers, Rezi van Lankveld, Maria Lassnig, James Little, Allan McCollum, Rodney McMillian, Malcolm Morley, Sarah Morris, Jorge Pardo, Joyce Pensato, Seth Price, Stephen Prina, Jon Pylypchuk, Willem de Rooij, Pieter Schoolwerth, Dirk Skreber, Emily Mae Smith, John Stezaker, Hiroki Tsukuda, Nicola Tyson, Corinne Wasmuht, Xie Nanxing, Samson Young, and Heimo Zobernig. Each artist has exhibited widely in both museums and galleries throughout the world and are regularly included in international exhibitions such as Documenta, the Whitney Biennial, The Carnegie International, and the São Paulo and Venice Biennals.
