Partners empowers low-income survivors of domestic violence to build safe and secure futures for themselves and their children by providing equal access to justice. We offer quality legal assistance in domestic violence and family law matters.
Our programs of free legal assistance focus on family court proceedings involving restraining orders, child and spousal support, visitation and custody. The programs run the gamut from extensive advice and counsel (either on the phone or in person) to assistance with preparation of court papers to representation by pro bono attorneys or by a Partners’ staff attorney. A significant number of survivors avail themselves of two (or even more) types of assistance over the life of a legal proceeding or with a new legal proceeding. For instance, a victim might first contact Partners to seek assistance with preparation of an application for enforcement of a child support order issued as part of a restraining order. Several months later, she might call again looking for help with an enforcement issue. If custody or visitation later becomes an issue, she can call Partners for assistance at that time.
