Long before Park City became home to world class mountain resorts and venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, it was an infamous mining town. Founded by prospectors in 1884, Park City mined silver until the early 1960's when the consolidation of area mines precipitated the start of the ski industry.
Today, Park City Municipal Corporation has set the goal for Park City, Utah to become "The Best Resort Town in America.” To achieve this, the City implemented a strategic plan which aims to: preserve and enhance the natural environment, make Park City a "Thriving Mountain Town," cultivate an engaged and effective government and citizenry, and foster a diverse and healthy community.
