PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (IPC) was born as a follow-up to Law No. 21 of 1992 regarding business entity port. PT Pelindo II is one of the state in the transport sector which is engaged in the management and operation of public ports. Companies operating areas include 10 provinces to manage 12 ports.
In 2008 the government issued Law No.17 / 2008 on the voyage which mandates that PT Pelindo (I-IV) focus as port operator. Previously, PT Pelindo dual role as operator and regulator. The role of the operator is running the port services, such as providing infrastructure and mechanical equipment port, and performing all business activities associated with the port ship service, freight services and passenger services.
The port has an important role in the economic growth of a country. One example is the presence of the archipelago pendulum projects undertaken by PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) as a form of support for government programs that are listed in the Masterplan Percepatan dan Perluasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Indonesia (MP3EI) in order to accelerate the realization of economic expansion and the equitable distribution of wealth among the people of Indonesia. Project pendulum archipelago is the line that connects strategic ports in Indonesia from east to west. These ports will be increased both the facilities and infrastructure to be able to serve vessels with a relatively large size so as to reduce logistics costs and encourage the equitable distribution of national economic growth in Indonesia.
