OREC members are building community-owned renewable energy, profitably. Residents across Eastern Ontario have invested more than $11 million through OREC in 22 solar projects, 2 wind turbines and 5 energy efficiency projects.
Founded in 2010, the Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op (OREC) is a for profit cooperative that facilitates community ownership of local renewable power production. Profits generated through the sale of electricity to the Ontario power grid or our project partners are distributed back to investors in annual dividends.
Purchase a membership share anytime and be the first to invest when securities become available - an annual opportunity. Historically, members have been able to purchase 5-year investment notes or 20-year preference shares and earn a return between 3-4%. Shares are RRSP & TFSA eligible.
OREC's projects support local industry and job-creation, expedite Ontario's transition to a clean energy economy, and increase self-sufficiency and resiliency of local communities.
