Open Media Endeavor's mission is to defend and advance the human right to Freedom of Information in Africa and Asia through Advocacy, Research, Cultivation of New Media Initiatives, and Consulting.
This project, OME, advances and defends the human right to Freedom of Information in Africa and Asia through Advocacy, Research, Cultivation of New Media Initiatives, and Consulting. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., OME is a collective of journalists and former diplomats, politicians, and technologists from all over the world. As a collective, we draw inspiration from the United Nations article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that recognizes every human's right to truth and the free exchange of information.
OME advances article 19's implied right to, “seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” We do this by cultivating and supporting new media initiatives and ecosystems that promote technical innovation, diversity, transparency, and journalist excellence.
OME defends article 19's "freedom of opinion and expression" through our data-driven research initiatives to reveal the ground truth, thus informing our advocacy and engagement initiatives.
When bringing together our advancement and defense verticals, we create an integrated competency that assumes a holistic approach that upholds democratic discourse, cultivates healthy technologies, and protects dignity.
