Pandiyan had started with 5000 books and presently has about a crore on every topic and subject. He shifted from the pavement to the regular shop few years ago after his shop was removed by the Corporation, he said. He stocks books in three nearby godowns, Librarians of colleges and schools and those running tutorial colleges come to him for books that are out of print. He sells the books at half the cover price. Students get a concession. The shop is open from 9AM morning to 9PM Night on all days. He is popular as Nool Pandiyan. Pandiyan said that he started his career delivering News papers. He later switched to wholesale business in waste paper. he will help him in the topic he is interested in, offer ‘tips’ to buyers. He explains that as he buys books in bulk it is not possible for him to check each and every book thus it might have few damages in very few cases. Pandiyan said that business is good inspite of the increase in use of internet. He said that earlier students bought books for reference but now many prefer question banks.
