Oceans Research Institute facilitates innovative and dynamic research relevant to the management and conservation of Southern Africa’s wildlife. We specialise in investigating the biology and ecology of mega-fauna, including sharks, fish and marine mammals.
Our multidisciplinary offering includes practical and theoretical training for aspiring researchers. We offer field research training courses and postgraduate opportunities with partner schools, technical colleges and universities. We also provide facilities for visiting marine scientists.
We advise governmental and non-governmental bodies on relevant conservation issues. Additionally, we strive to communicate our research findings not only to the scientific community but more importantly, to the public via our website, media releases, scientific and popular articles, and documentaries.
