The New Jersey Association of Planning and Zoning Administrators has been in existence as a statewide membership organization for more than twenty-five years. It has over 270 members who work primarily in municipal land-use offices as land use administrators, planning board secretaries, zoning board of adjustment secretaries, zoning officials, and a variety of other administrative and enforcement personnel.
Over many years the Association has partnered with the Center for Government Services at Rutgers University to establish the educational standards for key municipal planning and zoning positions. Today it continues to promote education as a critical factor in good local land-use practices, and certifications for planning board/zoning board secretaries, land use administrators, and zoning officials are offered by Rutgers.
Beyond the classroom, membership in the Association provides many opportunities to exchange ideas with others facing the same on-the-job challenges. NJAPZA also advocates for the professional respect and recognition that those working in municipal land-use offices should receive. Membership is open to those individuals who are employed by a local government and provide administrative or zoning enforcement services in a land-use office as well as any individual with an interest in the field of planning and zoning.
