National Food Agency is the Legal Entity under the Public Law of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia that is established on the basis of Georgian Law on Food Safety and Quality. The Agency has been transformed into legal entity under the public law since 3 January of 2011. The Agency is a legal successor of the former National Service of Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection. National Food Agency provides food/feed safety and quality assurance, as well as, carries out state control over the fulfillment of hygiene, veterinary-sanitary and phytosanitary rules and requirements; Conducts risk management and communication according to the food/feed, epizootic and phytosanitary risk assessment; Carries out food safety state control; Registers veterinary medicines, pesticides, agrochemicals; Performs denomination of place of origin of the mineral water; is responsible to apply categories to the water products; Manages prophylactic-treatment and eradication activities against especially dangerous animal diseases; Assures protection of plants from quarantine and especially harmful organisms; Coordinates private veterinary activities; Issues certificates and permits according to the Georgian legislation in force. Provides society with a timely, impartial and reliable information on hazards and possible risks; Responds to the violations of Georgian Administrative Offence Code.
