National Copper and Smelting (NCS) is a leader in the market for precision copper tubing. The company was founded in 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio and moved its operations to Huntsville, Alabama in 1982. In 1985, a group of investors from Birmingham, Alabama purchased the assets of the Ohio corporation.
In 1990, the Alabama investment group purchased American Tubing Incorporated (ATI) located in Springdale, Arkansas. American Tubing is a copper tube fabricator that manufactures equipment for the HVAC industry. As a result of the ATI acquisition, National Tube Holding Company was formed in 1990, and became the parent company for NCS and ATI.
In December 2012, Small Tube Products of Altoona, PA purchased the assets of The National Copper & Smelting Company from National Tube Holding, and changed the name to National Copper, LLC, dba National Copper & Smelting.
