We are a team of young people who have been promoting activism and healthy lifestyle among youth in our villages of the south of Serbia for over a decade now. Our group was formed when our karate club, which kept us all together, was shut, so we decided to form an organization with a same name, Kobra.
Ever since, we had 3 main aims:
- To promote youth activism in rural areas,
- To educate people about environmental protection,
- To work on the preservation and promotion of our tradition and culture.
We received many awards, among which and an award for the best youth volunteer action in Serbia in 2008, by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia.
Some of the projects we are very proud of are:
“Paint in green” – we built a park for kids on a place of an old landfill,
“Home for everyone” – we renovated the old Cultural center in the village making it a space for youth gatherings, workshops and sports,
“Life in the countryside today” – we filmed a documentary about the life in mostly abandoned villages in the south of Serbia, visiting more than 100 villages, only travelling by bicycles.
We are also one of the top countries' organizers of international workcamps. "Summer in Toponica", we can proudly call a brand now, has been organized 5 times, leaving great memories to both our visiting volunteers and our local community. We also organized 2 more adult camps, and 3 teen workcamps, called "Art For Diversity".
The latest and most significant change for our group was moving to another space, just 2 minutes from the Cultural center - a place we called Kobralend, which has already guested many Workaway volunteers and will be a new hub for creatives and also the group's office.
The main team, now consisting of economists, a biologist, an architect, marketing managers, artists and computer scientists, is constantly working on new projects.
Group Kobra has, and will always be, non-profit organization built only on friendship and good causes.
