The Company is equipped with fully modernized machines of reputed makes like Trumac, LMW, Savio. Our products are being marketed in throughout India. We are also in Export market. Nagammal Mills P Ltd., was established by Pioneer S. Kumaraswamy and the foundation stone for the same was laid by Sri.Panampilly Govinda Menon, the former Chief Minister of Travancore. The Mill was opened with the Japanese and the Indian make machinery. The founder of Nagammal Mills (P) Ltd is aptly called the “Pioneer” as he stands first in having launched the first bus service, electricity system, out agency of Southern Railways, spinning mill, tiles factory, rice mill, ice factory, new model salt pans, gas plant, technical training centre, cinema theatre, petrol station and plantations. Thiru.S. Kumaraswamy, the son of Thiru.Sastha and Srimathi.Sivagami was born on 12th October, 1897 at Nagercoil. He hailed from a poor family and studied only up to IV standard. Young Kumaraswamy had to survive against heavy odds in life and even worked as servant in a yarn shop. And finally he decided to go to Chennai in search of a better job at the age of fourteen with the permission of his mother. Prof.K.N.Sivaraj Pillai, Madras University, helped him to get a job at Addisons Transport Company. He worked as a fitter in a workshop and then as a driver in Lakshmi Vilas Motor Service, Nagercoil. Later he purchased a second hand bus for about Rs.1000/-. He started his own bus service named Champion Motor Service with the single bus.In 1917, he sold the old bus and bought a dozen of buses and renamed his bus service as Pioneer Motor Service. The Pioneer Motor Service grew into a mighty Transport Company in South India within a short span of time. In 1940, Kumaraswamy and his brothers, Nellaiappan and Nagamani, joined together and administered the Pioneer Motor Service in a systematic manner. In 1934, he started the Nagercoil Electric Supply Corporation, another new venture. The then Travancore Government gave him license for electric supply for a period of fifty five years. But the corporation was nationalized in 1953 by the Travancore State. In 1938, the Government of Travancore decided to nationalize the main routes. Pioneer Motor Service was the first to be nationalized. It shows his generosity that there is no compensation was received by him from the Travancore Government. During the Second World War, there was a shortage of petrol. He invented a substitute for petrol with the help of charcoal. In 1942, he established the Pioneer Charcoal producing plant at Madras. It was the first successful Gas Plant in India. In recognition of this service, he was awarded the Certificate of Honour from the Madras Government. Sri.V.V.Giri, the former President of India was then the Minister for Law and Industry in the Government of Madras Presidency, appreciated the inventive and innovative spirit of Kumaraswamy. At the age of sixty three, Pioneer S. Kumaraswamy passed away after brief illness. Once he was asked to say a few words about his contributions at a public meeting. He said, “I have nothing to say here but I can show the industries that I have started here”. Thus he was not a man of words but of action.
