The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia is the legal successor of the Economic State Committee of the Republic of Armenia, which was formed in 1990, after the reorganization of State Planning Committee of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia.
On June 10, 1997, according to the RA President’s NM -747 Decree on "Changes in Structure of the Government of the Republic of Armenia” the Ministry of Trade, Services and Tourism of RA, the Ministry of Industry of RA, and the Ministry of Economy of RA were merged into one Ministry: the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Armenia.
On March 16, 2002, according to the RA President’s NN 1063 and 1064 Decrees, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of RA was reorganized into the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of RA.
On April 21, 2008, according to the RA President’s Decree the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of RA was renamed as Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia. Thus, the Ministry has resumed its former name.
There are 19 structural and 4 separate departments in the organizational structure of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia. Also, 4 state organizations and companies operate within the Ministry’s system.
