Mfone Co.,Ltd Also known as “Camshin” was established in Cambodia since 1993, and it is originally a joint venture between Shin Satellite PLC, Thailand and The Ministry of Post and Telecommunication (MPTC). In the beginning, the company provided only fixed phone wireless local loop (WLL) technology, which could ensure rapid deployment of basic telephone service – hence a telephone could be installed within 24 hours of a request.
On 4 March 1997, the Royal Government of Cambodia extended the company’s licence from 15 to 35 years and allowed Shinawatra International (Currently Thaicom PLC) to holding 51% and Asia Mobile holding 49% of the company’s shares.
On 23 June 1997, the company was also granted the license for the provision of wireless telecommunications system and services.
In 1998, Mfone was permitted to operate an 1800 Mhz cellular phone service.
Later in August 2007, the company was launched with the 3G network WCDMA 2100 for phone service.
The first two networks opened in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville on 1 April 1998 Mfone is a subsidiary of Shin Satellite PLC, Thailand, which is in turn a business line of the Shin Group. Shin Group is well-known internationally for being the leading telecommunications group in Thailand. In addition, AIS (Advance Information Service) from the same telecommunication group, is the number one leading telecommunication in Thailand providing GSM mobile system.
