We’ve evolved to the Medical Exercise Training Institute (METI). METI is a part of the American Academy of Health, Fitness and Rehab Professionals (AAHFRP) and we are still dedicated to “Bridging the Gap Between Health Care and Fitness” by offering our internationally known Medical Exercise Specialist (MES), Post Rehab Conditioning Specialist (PRCS) and Medical Exercise Program Director (MEPD) certifications. We have expanded our scope to include Medical Exercise Training (MET).
When we started in 1994, post rehab fitness was the path to connect with medical professionals. Changes in the health care system and the insurance industry, have warranted an evolution from post rehab fitness to medical exercise training. Medical exercise training or MET is the development of safe and effective conditioning programs for clients with medical conditions. METI provides medical exercise training certifications, standards and guidelines for medical exercise professionals.
Medical Exercise Training (MET) includes the use of strength, flexibility, cardiovascular and other physical conditioning techniqus to manage medical conditions. The universal symbol for MET includes icons for each these training concepts as well as the stethoscope to indicate the management of medical conditions with exercise.
MES’, PRCS’ and MEPD’s are found working in hospital-based fitness centers, sports medicine centers, physical therapy clinics, chiropractic offices, health clubs and personal training studios. Worldwide thousands of our certified medical exercise and post rehab professionals have received referrals from physicians, physical therapists and chiropractors and many have received insurance reimbursement for MET services. The MES and PRCS certifications workshops are available through our new Medical Exercise Specialist Training series.
