MedWaves is the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP).
SCP is the combination of the implementation of tools and measures geared towards redesigning how goods and services are consumed and produced to drive industrial and socioeconomic development towards non-polluting, no-waste, low-carbon, resource-efficient, socially inclusive and circular economies.
The Centre develops its activity under the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) for the protection and development of the Mediterranean basin, an organisation belonging to the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment).
MedWaves has the mandate from the Barcelona and Stockholm Conventions to provide assistance to their Contracting Parties in fulfilling their commitments under those treaties, particularly through the support to the countries to shift to sustainable consumption and production patterns and circular economy.
In doing so, MedWaves provides knowledge, training, advice and networking opportunities to governments, businesses, entrepreneurs, financial agents and civil society organizations to adopt eco-design and eco-innovation as strategic approaches to boost businesses competitiveness in the market.
