Maresca Interiors was established by Italian-Brazilian sisters Cecilia and Elena Maresca. Prior to setting up the company, both sisters had successful careers in the fashion and design industries. Cecilia headed up PR for Vivienne Westwood and farfetch.com, while Elena worked as an interior designer for London’s coveted firms Waldo Works and Russell Sage Studio. Maresca Interiors epitomises the sisters’ DNA: a mix of exotic elements of Brazilian modernism fused with the timeless elegance of Italian design. Their love of quality design and stringent attention to detail is inherited from their mother, an archaeologist and restorer of Japanese lacquers and their passion for Brazilian modern furniture is fuelled by the family’s ties to this land having immigrated at the beginning of the ‘900. Alongside the interior design studio, Maresca Interiors specialises in sourcing iconic pieces from Brazilian designers of the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s. Featuring the work of the titans of Brazilian design - Lina Bo Bardi, Oscar Niemeyer, Joaquim Tenreiro, and Sergio Rodrigues, as well as numerous designers whose work and reputations only recently reached foreign shores, the company’s goal is to open this untapped vein of modernist design and bring it to European collectors. Continuing in its mission of promoting Brazilian Modernism, Maresca Interiors more recently showcased a selection of tapestries during Salone del Mobile in Milan. In 2019, the company is also set to launch a range of wallpapers inspired by these tapestries in partnership with Fromental, an award-winning British Wallpaper Atelier. The launch of indoor/outdoor furniture collection, Lito, in October 2018 is seen as a natural next step for the studio and is driven by a desire to enter the world of sustainable furniture design.
