Maladype Theater

Maladype Theater – founded in 2002 – works as an independent theatrical company with permanent members and a creative team. Maladype Theater does not receive regular governmental funds; it maintains itself exclusively from grant programs. Independence – besides being the characteristic operational form of the theater – is also the essence of its activity and the core of its theatrical concept. Maladype is a company capable of redefining itself, acquiring new perceptions, positioning itself in new contexts and considering changes as natural elements of creating theater. The company is deliberately looking for surprising opportunities of theatrical and non-theatrical locations and unusual theatrical solutions. Reaction from the spectator – which is free from traditional theatrical expectations and classical behavior – is a must. Unique theatrical language and reflection are characteristic features of Maladype. The company focuses on the actors’ intensive common work and continuous communication with the audience. Therefore the importance to improve the actors’ analytical and synthesizing skills; the everyday tone of their speech; and the constant condition of the improvisation based play that gives immediate and spirited reaction to the audience is inevitable. The performances of Maladype Theater, created under the direction of Zoltán Balázs (director and artistic leader) strenuously examine the special qualities of theater. Maladype’s performances elicit considerable professional reaction and experiment with new theatrical forms of expression. The performances have received several public and professional awards, and the company of Maladype has become one of the most exciting high quality independent formations of the theatrical world of Hungary.
