Ozumo Concepts, the California-based restaurant group that brought its famed Ozumo Japanese restaurant to San Francisco in 2001, has chosen Hollywood to unveil its new Tokyo Italian cuisine concept, MAGARI, opening in January 2022.
Tokyo-based Yoshiyuki Okuno, chef-owner of Michelin-acclaimed La-Brianza is teaming with Tony Messina, the 2019 James Beard Award-winning chef of UNI in Boston, to launch Okuno’s innovative blend of Italian cuisine with Japanese influences and craft. Sicilian-born Enrico Merendino, formerly executive sous at CARA, joins as Executive Chef.
MAGARI’s menu will offer fresh made pasta dishes with Japanese toppings, fresh seafood and crudo bar, and charcoal and wood-fired mains from the grill, including hand-selected A4 Wagyu beef. CASS CALDER SMITH designed the 190-seat restaurant in Hollywood’s iconic Columbia Square. A large and beautifully lit lounge will offer an extensive selection of craft cocktails as well as a robust Italian wine program. A 50 seat outdoor patio, serenely located inside the Columbia Square courtyard, presents an ideal outdoor dining option including a cozy fireplace lounge.
