A slip on flanges are connected to the pipe or Pipe fittings by two fillet weld, one executed inside and outside the concavity of the flanges. The size of a slip on flanges are larger than the outside radius of the connecting pipes, as the steel pipe has to slide inside the flange to be connected by the prosecution of a fillet weld. Field experience shows that slip-on flanges tend to have a way shorter service life than weld neck flanges, under the same mechanical stress condition, due to the absence of a phased hub (which distributes the stress between the pipe and the flange equally) and the presence of two different welding areas, rather of one. Slip On Flanges can be connected to pipes. Slip on flanges are also defined “ Hubbed flanges” and they’re easy to honor by their slim shape.
