Lumotech (Pty) Ltd commenced operations in South Africa in 1957 under the name of Derek Riley & Co. (Pty) Ltd. In 1967 the factory moved to Uitenhage and the company's name was changed to Hella (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd. In 1989, Hella Germany sold 40% of its shareholding to Metair Investments Limited. Metair acquired the balance of the shareholding in 1993 and the final company name change was effected in March 2009 to Lumotech (Pty) Ltd.
Lumotech has a BBBEE level 3 rating which is supported by Metair’s full empowerment status. Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH) acquired an equity stake in Metair with the deal being concluded in November 2006 and becoming effective in early January 2007.
Lumotech has access to a multitude of facilities and technical resources through technical aid agreements with Hella Germany, Automotive Lighting and Koito in Japan.
The name Lumotech is synonymous with quality and reliability. Manufactured products cover the Original Equipment, replacement and aftermarket segments. The Lumotech automotive product range consists of headlights, tail lights, spot lights, signal lights and specialized plastic injection mouldings. The commercial range consists of energy efficient streetlights and warehouse lights marketed under the Envirolight brand.
