The Lucky brand started in 1935 when Charles Crouch began opening grocery stores in the Bay Area. The stores did so well that he renamed them Lucky stores with the goal of being the freshest, cleanest, quickest, most organized, and easiest store to shop at. Lucky grew into a national company offering a wide range of services.
In the 1990's, Lucky introduced larger footprint supermarkets with service departments including bakeries, delis, floral and photo departments. Lucky underwent an acquisition in 1998 and was re-branded in 2000.
Then, in 2007, Modesto-based Save Mart Supermarkets purchased many of those stores in Northern California. And in that same year, we brought the Lucky brand back to Bay Area residents through store conversions, along with the same values of quality, freshness, and service that the brand started with in the beginning.
