About
Jewish Community is an umbrella NGO with more than 100 employees and seven regional Jewish communities, uniting about 5000 members in the country and belonging to the worldwide Jewish NGO network. The Lithuanian national revival movement and initial struggle for liberation from Soviet oppression which occurred at the end of the 1980s also provided the conditions for a Jewish national rebirth. Jewish cultural support groups began to form in many institutions and towns. On August 25, 1988 it was officially decided to create a Lithuanian Jewish Cultural Society; the founding meeting took place on March 5, 1989. Currently Lithuanian Jewish Community functions as a Social, Cultural and Civic organization. Our main priorities include but are not limited to the tangible and intangible Lithuanian Jewish heritage preservation, providing Social support for the Community members, educational and recreational program implementation and Human Rights activism.
