Lithuanian Competition Council (KT) is a state institution of the Republic of Lithuania, implementing the state competition policy and supervising compliance with the Law on Competition. When performing its statutory functions the KT is free and independent in its decision making. The KT is accountable to the Seimas (the Parliament).
The mission of the KT is to safeguard the principles of fair competition. Consumers benefit from open markets wherein competition is unrestricted neither by businesses nor public authorities. The KT enhances compliance with the rules of competition and is actively involved into competition advocacy.
KT responsibilities include:
•enforcing the Law on Competition (incl. within public sector);
•advocating competition in Lithuania;
•coordinating state aid issues and administrating state aid register;
•exercising the powers vested in the KT under the Law on the Prohibition of Unfair Practices of Retailers.
The KT is a committed member of international competition enforcement community and is an active participant in and contributor to OECD, ICN and ECN and other formats.
