About
Aging is a multifactorial process - determined by genetic factors and environmental influences. The Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena is dedicated to researching the underlying biological processes. The FLI was the first research institute for biomedical aging research in Germany when it was founded in 2004.
The goal of our research is to decipher genetic, epigenetic, and molecular processes and point the way to new therapies that reduce the risk of developing cancer and other diseases in old age. The FLI has nearly 300 employees, about half of them researchers who have come to Jena from 30 countries around the world. We are convinced that our research creates the knowledge base to extend the human health span in old age.
