Mission: Leech Lake Tribal College provides quality higher education grounded in Anishinaabe values.
Founded in 1990, Leech Lake Tribal College is a public, two-year college serving northern Minnesota. LLTC was chartered by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in response to a longstanding need for affordable, high-quality, culturally-relevant higher education for its people. In 2004, the college moved out of its initial location to a new, 30-acre campus located three miles northwest of Cass Lake, MN.
LLTC serves some of the poorest communities in Minnesota - the average total household income of an incoming student is less than $14,000 - and does so despite not receiving any funding from the state of Minnesota, and federal funding that is far less than that received by comparable mainstream institutions.
In 2010, Leech Lake Tribal College was ranked among the Top 10 Community Colleges in America, scoring second highest in the nation in active and collaborative learning and in student-faculty interaction.
