Association Latvian Forest Certification Council is three chamber (Environmental, Social and Economical) balanced NGO which was founded in year 2001 to develop and maintain the awareness of Latvian society on environmentally friendly and sustainable forestry and to promote forest certification contributing to environmentally friendly, socially equitable and economically sustainable forest management in Latvia.
Association's tasks are:
1. To support and promote development and maintenance of fair, publicly transparent and
beneficial for business public business environment of the Latvian forest industry.
2. To provide individuals and organizations in Latvia with information about:
2.1 Forest Stewardship Council® and it's developed "Principles and Criteria for Forest Stewardship"
2.2 The process, principles and requirements of Forest Stewardship Council's forest management
and chain of custody certification as well as possibilities to implement this certification in Latvia's
conditions.
Association uses following methods to accomplish its aims:
1. Establish and maintain an ongoing dialogue with individuals and organizations representing
various public interest groups about Latvian forest management and certification issues.
2. Participate in elaboration of legislation related to forest management in Latvia.
3. Organize seminars, conferences and consultations as well as other projects on forest
management and certification issues.
4. Cooperate with experts, consultants and organizations of various fields both from Latvia and
from abroad to achieve its goals.
5. Publish books, booklets, posters and other informative materials.
6. Do business in accordance with Latvian law.
7. Establish and/or become a member of other organizations or delegate its representatives for the
work in these organizations.
