Kumin was founded in 1977 in Anchorage, Alaska by the late Jon Kumin. We provide professional services in planning, architecture, and interior design for urban, rural and remote facilities across Alaska and in Washington, Antarctica and the Russian Far East.
The firm is led by our two Principals: Charles Banister, AIA, LEED AP and Jon Stolle, AIA. Our talented staff includes registered architects, intern-architects, and interior design and space planning specialists with post-graduate experience ranging from nine to more than 36 years, as well as administrative staff.
Our staff have outstanding technical expertise in requirements unique to the Alaska environment, such as materials and methods appropriate to construction in the North. Our buildings are performing in environments that are stressed by permafrost soils, high winds, corrosive atmospheres, extreme temperature ranges, and icing and drifting snow. Often, we take on projects that are further complicated by short construction seasons and limited transportation networks.
We are known for our integrity, dedication, and for being one of Alaska's most well-respected design firms. In the past five years alone, 73% of our revenue has come from repeat clients--a testament to our client-centric philosophy and advocacy on behalf of our clients.
