Kaduna, located in the north-central region of Nigeria, is one of the major states of the country. It is thought that Kaduna may have derived its name from the Gbayi ethnic group, who have lived there for centuries or from the Hausa word for crocodile, Kada.
Home to a number of prestigious institutions, Kaduna is known as "The Centre of Learning". The Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Nigerian College of Aviation (Zaria), Barewa College (1st English-speaking school in Northern Nigeria) and Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic among others have their main campuses in Kaduna. Interestingly, the Nok tribe, one of Africa’s earliest civilizations also originates from Kaduna. From the colonial era to the contemporary period, Kaduna has maintained a reputation as a state with a huge pull factor. Myriad tribes around Nigeria have settled in Kaduna and called it their home for years. Till today, the state continues to cosmopolitan.
Kaduna State is currently being governed by Governor Nasir el-Rufa'i who resumed office in May 2015.
