The mission of the Junior League of Portland, Maine is to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration and training.
For over 100 years, we have trained thousands of volunteers and leaders, sponsored and supported legislation that directly affects our communities, and either partnered with, founded, or supported so many of the greater Portland community organizations and programs in existence today, including the Childrens Museum and Theater of Maine, Center for Grieving Children, Kids First Center, Beacon (now Preble Street) Teen Center, and the Trauma Intervention Program. Through these and many other initiatives, the JLP has established itself as a respected and valuable community partner.
The JLP welcomes all persons who identify as women and who value our mission to join us. Most of our community impact work is centered around the greater Portland area, but our members reside throughout the state of Maine.
JLP's community impact projects have a two-fold purpose: they enable the JLP to directly impact our community by addressing a specific need, and they also provide our members with an opportunity to further develop the skills learned through JLP's training programs and gain new skills through on-the-job experiential learning.
