Formerly the Historic East Linden Project, Inc., the Carter CDC works to improve the quality of life in the Historic East Linden Neighborhood in Kennett Square and in surrounding communities. The grassroots, resident-driven effort began as an effort to end an open-air drug market and combat neighborhood deterioration. Our dramatic success has created an affordable, diverse community where a focus on children translates into a sense of well being that extends across southern Chester County. Our Study Buddies program offers homework help, computer time and an evening meal after school, and our two unity events strengthen the connections in our broad network. Free summer lunches, book bag and jacket distributions, beautification efforts, a collaboration with our Kennett Square Police Department, summer enrichment opportunities for children, and many other day-to-day activities implement our innovative and remarkably successful strategy for creating positive neighborhood change.
