Independent think tank for sustained economic growth and social protection. Every day we are faced with the structural deficiencies of Belgium and its regions: a soaring public debt, an ageing population, low pensions, a heavy tax burden, high unemployment, a healthcare system bursting at the seams, insufficient economic growth and international competitiveness, a failing multicultural society, internal divisions... The situation is indeed serious, but it isn't hopeless. We believe in the future. We believe in the potential of Belgium and its regions. Together, we have what it takes to combine prosperity and social protection. For our generation and for the ones that will follow. We can make it work, if we get our act together. The Itinera Institute takes up the challenge and develops proposals for structural policy reform, beyond the realm of party politics or interest groups, and irrespective of state structure, for sustained economic growth and social protection.
