Operating as an independent, nonprofit organization, the Institute for Field Research (IFR) offers academic excellence in field training and international education. By working with leading scholars from academic institutions across the world, the IFR delivers a broad range of hands-on research programs in Archaeology, Anthropology, and Environmental Studies. Our programs are academically rigorous with strong emphasis on student learning. To ensure the highest academic standards, our field schools are peer-reviewed annually by our Academic Board. We are a globally present organization and foster a diverse, international student body.
Any individual above the age of 18, regardless of their matriculating university, may attend an IFR field school. Students are no longer limited to the expertise of faculty members at their home institution, and faculty can recruit the best students from around the globe. All participants are rewarded 8 semester credit units (12 quarter credits) through our partner, Connecticut College – a highly ranked, private liberal arts institution.
IFR's commitment to excellence goes far beyond field schools. Our staff and board members' dedication to excellence transcends academia and is strongly applied to service. We believe that students deserve exceptional customer service in all interactions with the IFR – from application to enrollment and throughout their entire field experience.
