Research at the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal
The Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal, a rehabilitation hospital for the elderly, is known for its double mission, that of research and teaching. Its mission as a university-affiliated hospital is intimately connected with the activities of the research centre and encouraged by a strong research initiative. The research centre carries out this mission by implementing research on health systems and services as well as biomedical, clinical, social, cultural, and other factors that have an impact on the elderly. The basis of this research rests on the integration of different disciplines as well as the interconnection between research and clinical activities. Many research projects involve patients at the Institut, which adheres to strict guidelines in order to ensure the protection of all research subjects.
The research centre of the Institut
The research centre of the Institut is part of a research network acknowledged by the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ). The work of the research teams is funded by the major provincial and federal funding organizations. These teams are part of a network of national-- including many from the FRSQ network-- and international collaboration. Such cooperation establishes links between Québec and Canadian research teams and bridges North and South American interests with those of Europe and Asia. Furthermore, the research centre is recognized for the importance it places on the mentoring of young researchers in order to assure the continuation and development of research in health and aging.
