The Filum Disease and the Neuro-cranio-vertebral syndrome: description, clinical picture and imaging features: https://bit.ly/3fWVsa1
Founded in 2008 by Dr. Miguel B. Royo-Salvador, the Institut Chiari & Siringomielia & Escoliosis de Barcelona (ICSEB) is an advanced medical centre specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal and cerebral diseases.
ICSEB introduced two new concepts, the Filum Disease and the Neuro-Cranio-Vertebral Syndrome, that group together conditions thus far considered idiopathic, such as Arnold-Chiari Syndrome type I, Idiopathic Syringomyelia, Idiopathic Scoliosis, Basilar Impression, Platybasia, Retroflexed Odontoid, Brainstem Kinking and other related ones.
ICSEB's main objectives are:
- to achieve the best solution for each single patient through the application of the most advanced and least invasive surgical techniques;
- to apply globally the results of over 40 years of research on the existence of a shared cause for the Neuro-Cranio-Vertebral Syndrome’s manifestations: an abnormal spinal cord traction, which is produced by a non-detectable congenital anomaly of the Filum Terminale (Filum Disease), or acquired by a tumor, trauma, or other causes.
ICSEB developed the Filum System®, a unique and innovative method made up of 16 protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of the Filum Disease and of some cases of non-congenital Neuro-Cranio-Vertebral Syndrome. The excellent application of the method is guaranteed by the Institute's internal structure and core divisions:
- the Care Unit for the Spinal Cord and Brain
- the Multidisciplinary Investigation Centre
- the Centre of worldwide attention.
ICSEB is committed to excellence in every single aspect of its practice: from the very first contact with the patient, to the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, the Institute pursues the best service and optimum results for the benefit of both patients and science.
