Opened in 2006 by Founding Artistic Director Victoria Lyras, the Indianapolis School of Ballet (ISB) has become Indiana’s premier destination for professional dance instruction. Centrally located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis since its inception, ISB has proudly cultivated a culturally diverse environment designed for the continual physical, intellectual and artistic growth of all dancers. In addition to providing quality via its renowned faculty, ISB is dedicated to serving the community through various outreach programs, including free performances throughout the year, providing tuition assistance to more than 20% of its students through the ISB Scholarship Program, and promoting ballet as a teaching tool for local elementary schools through the Indy Ballet Classrooms project.
In May 2017, Indianapolis Ballet, Inc. took the next step in its development by announcing plans to launch the Indianapolis Ballet professional company, the first headquartered in Indy in a dozen years. Indianapolis Ballet is currently in the midst of its third full artistic season across 2020-21.
Stabilizing world-class ballet for dancers and audiences is vital to the success of the Circle City's growing and vibrant artistic scene.
