INDE was created in 1988, and ran projects in Portugal and 21 countries.
INDE runs a “Migrations and Development” umbrella program, that includes activities with migrants associations in Portugal, namely training on project identification and management, support for dealing with projects in their countries of origin, production of technical and pedagogical documents related to remittances, brain drain, the role of diasporas… It allows institutional partnerships with most migrants’ organizations in Portugal, as well as IOM, the North-South Center of the Council of Europe, the High Commissioner for Migrations, and other relevant organizations.
INDE has also a long experience supporting community radios, and other community media, in southern countries, namely East Timor and Guinea Bissau, within the framework of media support projects and rural development projects. INDE has an extensive record of field projects, in partnership with local organizations, in the three pilot countries
