Homes Not Borders' mission is to provide the refugee and forced migrant population of the DC area with what they need to thrive and feel at home in the United States through our three programs. Our Home Set Ups program helps refugees upon arrival to the U.S. by providing them with all the home goods they need to turn an empty apartment into a welcoming home. The Moving Up Fund program gives recently displaced persons financial support so they can take the time for training or mentoring, upskilling into better employment. The Artisan Empowerment Program gives a platform and market to refugee artisans, who often come to the U.S. without knowing anyone or how to sell their handmade goods. The main objective of the program is to help refugee artisans, most of whom are women, earn extra income and encourage them to start their own businesses. Since our inception in 2017, we have served almost 1000 newly-arrived families and 3000 people in the DC metro area.
