The Western Norway Regional Health Authority (WNRHA, Helse Vest) has overall responsibility for providing specialised health services in the counties of Rogaland, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. Its role is to ensure that the inhabitants of the region have access to the services they are legally entitled to.
Helse Vest owns five health trusts that run hospitals and other health institutions in the region, and has the overall administrative responsibility for them. The health trusts have around 29,000 health service employees. Around 50 people are employed directly by the authority, which is based at Forus in Stavanger. Helse Vest reports to the Ministry of Health and Care Services.
