The company was founded on 31 January 1979. It operates in the travel retail industry, providing travellers passing through Greece’s exit points with the opportunity to make duty paid and duty free purchases from a large range of original, brand name products. Starting out in 1979 with two stores, it now operates an extensive network of 111 shops at 46 points throughout Greece (22 airports, 11 border checkpoints, 13 ports). Hellenic Distributions S.A. is subsidiary of Hellenic Duty Free Shops S.A. Awards & Distinctions «HELLENIC DUTY FREE SHOPS SA» is ranked in 7th place among "The World's Top 50 Giant Operators, 2010", based on Generation Research. In 2008, it was presented with the «Export Activity 2007» award by the Athens Chamber of Commerce & Industry. It has also received the distinction «THE BEST NEW BEAUTY STORE» for its Perfumes & Cosmetics Shop in the Intra Schengen area at Athens International Airport by the Duty Free News International Product Award 2010.
