Hebrew Helpers is dedicated to connecting families and synagogues with expert B’nai Mitzvah mentors and officiants, who tailor Jewish learning to the community and individual family’s needs. In addition to Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, Hebrew Helpers teaches Hebrew language and general Jewish studies to children and adults at any level. Founded by Todd Shotz in 2005, Hebrew Helpers works throughout California and New York.
Hebrew Helpers has worked with families from all the Jewish movements, unaffiliated families and interfaith families, to provide traditional services or creative alternatives. Our aim is to provide young people with the tools to navigate their own Jewish identity through understanding Jewish history, culture, ritual and prayer. This ancient rite of passage can be a modern milestone when families and children assess their spiritual place in the community. Our dream is that no family that is looking for a deeper connection and comprehension of Judaism falls through the cracks.
Our mentors work one-on-one with students, often supplemented by group and family sessions. Mentors come from varying backgrounds, from educators to camp counselors to writers and actors. All mentors have formal training in Jewish education and the crucial skill of Torah & Haftarah chanting. Hebrew Helpers will connect you with the best guide for your family.
