Heat Island is a new design studio working across architecture, urbanism, software and environmental engineering.
Since 2018, we’ve been working together to build a collective practice capable of addressing the major challenges of the future – from the impact of our lives on the planet to the technological transformation of jobs. The studio model is founded on the idea of sharing years of experience across design, ecology and technology, and creating a platform for architecture, future city design and urban ecology in all its dimensions.
We work with industry leaders, researchers, developers, social enterprises, schools and community groups. Recent and ongoing projects range from a completed lab and global headquarters for the Shadow Robot Company to sustainable models for ready-made garment production in Bangladesh; Low-cost networked evaporative cooling systems for hot-arid cities and a multi-unit residential project exploring off-site construction and the reinvention of suburbia.
