Harare International School teaches the personal values, academic qualities and sense of responsibility needed for life-long learning, community service and world citizenship through programs that are relevant, challenging and engaging.
At Harare International School we offer three of the four IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). This means that our framework for teaching and learning spans the entire school, from our EC classrooms to grade 12.
It also means we have the unique distinction of being the only authorized International Baccaleaureate (IB) Continuum School in all of Zimbabwe – a distinction of which we are very proud.
These three programmes, or frameworks for teaching and learning, share a common philosophy and a commitment to a high quality, international education that we believe promotes our ability, as a school community, to thrive and reach for excellence.
Across the continuum, our teachers are committed to the principles of an IB education by promoting inquiry-based teaching strategies and conceptual-based learning. Through an IB education, our students grow in their ability to think critically and creatively, develop an enthusiasm for lifelong learning, gain confidence in their own identities, and learn to respond to the challenges that face them.
As an IB education is broad and balanced, our students are exposed to a wide-variety of subjects, spanning many disciplines. Our students are encouraged to celebrate our common humanity and engage with others with an open-mind. Students learn additional languages and about other cultures, and explore locally and globally significant ideas. As an IB school, we cultivate the attributes found in the IB Learner Profile and those skills necessary for personal and academic success.
