Hanon McKendry was a ground-breaking advertising agency started in 1994 by Jim Hanon and Bill McKendry. While the firm's award-winning work out of two offices (Grand Rapids, Michigan and Colorado Springs, Colorado) was widely recognized, the firm dedicating 50% of its work to nonprofit organizations is what really set it apart.
Numerous alumni have gone onto working with other national and international advertising agencies and/or started their own ventures. A little know fact is that the agency's co-founders also helped birth Compass Film Academy, now known as Compass College of Cinematic Arts.
In 2015, JDA Worldwide acquired Hanon McKendry's two offices.
Today, Jim Hanon, who has also had a very successful career in feature films and documentaries, runs Minus Red – a creative and production company based in Rhode Island. Bill McKendry initially joined JDA but has since spun off and created an idea generation specialty agency called HAVEN | a creative hub in Grand Haven, Michigan. McKendry also speaks nationally on how nonprofits can use branding and marketing more effectively to grow their impact, he speaks and authors on this topic under the brand DO MORE GOOD.
