Greenwich & Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GLYPT) is celebrating 40 years of delivering theatre and arts activities for young people in South East London. GLYPT offers a wide range of participatory arts programmes (ages 1-25), professional theatre productions and inclusive education programmes. Now based at the Tramshed in Woolwich, GLYPT works regularly in the boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham, but also London-wide.
GLYPT’s theatre productions tour Primary and Secondary schools and in-house for school and families audiences. Participatory programmes include regular drama and dance workshops including a group for young people with moderate learning difficulties; holiday programmes in drama, film, writing, design and dance; and a new programme “Whatever Makes You Happy” for young people with mental health issues. GLYPT creates bespoke education projects for schools, based on national curriculum or SEAL (social and emotional aspects of learning) objectives. GLYPT supports young emerging artists through its Masterclass programme, work with local drama schools, and Peer Inspirer and Advocate programmes enabling young people to develop skills in leading drama activities.
GLYPT specialises in creating work that address inclusion and diversity. This includes award-winning work with young refugees, work with young carers, young people with learning difficulties, Looked After young people, young people with BESD, teenage parents and those at risk of exclusion.
